The State of Florida has once again proven itself incompetent. Still reeling from the scandal surrounding the disappearance of 5 year old Rilya Wilson, the state's Department of Children and Families faces criticism anew because several foster children were recently found unattended in a West Palm motel. The 11-15 year old girls were noticed by a motel employee who saw them drinking at the pool with several adult men. The employee notified the police, who in turn, notified DCF.
To the officer's astonishment, the DCF already knew the girls were at the motel. DCF had paid for the rooms because of a shortage of foster homes. Though the girls were supposed to be under the supervision of a company with a state contract, neither DCF nor the company detailed why there was no supervision available at the time. Pending an investigation, the companies contract with the state has been suspended.
These stories, and the millions exactly like them, are truly indicative of why the state needs much, much, less power..... anyone who can argue for government intervention and/or regulation must present a truly compelling reason as the incompetence that permeates our bureacracies is astounding....
