Wow. More government stupidity in action. Consumer Freedom reported yesterday that West Virginia is stepping up enforcement of a law that requires all minors under 18 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian while inside any establishment that sells "wines or spirits or malt liquors." In everyday english, that means if your daughter has her best friend spend the night, you can forget about taking them to a family dinner. And don't even think about trying to take your grandkids, nieces, or cousins out for a good meal if they haven't reached the age of 18 -- that's illegal too.

It really is easy to argue for less government when government continues to do things as stupid as this.

Examples abound of government inefficiency and waste. But rarely does one get to see such glaring incompetence as is easily observed when reviewing the case of Rilya Wilson. This little five year old girl was "lost" by the Florida Department of Child Services while the negligent worker charged with her supervision filed a variety of false and otherwise misleading reports. The details are too many to get into here, but suffice to say, the State of Florida took a little girl from her family, lost her, and isn't quite sure if they found her headless body or not.

Even sadder, the state has now recently taken the girl's little sister from the custody of her grandmother without a judge's order. The department and its administrators we're berated by the judge who was horrified that they would take the second girl without obtaining approval.

These types of stories are always the best remedy for those who argue for more government in any form. Government is unaccountable, it is unresponsive, and often, it does much more harm than good.
